Sérénité massages combine a mixture of traditional and Acupressure movements to restore balance and energy to the body, as well as to relieve muscular tension. Massage has a large number of benefits, some of which are outlined below, including stimulation of the circulatory and immune systems, reduction of high blood pressure and muscular tension and pain relief in muscles and joints. Sérénité offer different types of massage to suit the client’s individual requirements:
Jeanne is professionally qualified in several types of massage, including those that are mentioned below. However if you require other massage types (eg. deep tissue, lymphatic, acupressure) please talk to Jeanne.
Classical Swedish Massage
A firm-pressured tissue massage combining traditional Swedish movements to alleviate tension in the body’s muscles to create a general sense of well-being. Swedish massage is a treatment designed to energise the body by stimulating circulation. Five basic strokes, all flowing towards the heart, are used to manipulate the soft tissues of the body. A combination of effleurage, kneading, rolling, percussion and tapping movements, with the application of oil, are used to loosen up, tone and relax the muscles. Pressure can be adapted for personal preference.
The Benefits of Massage Therapy include:
• Relieve or prevent physical dysfunction and pain
• Relax tight and tense muscles and helps to improve
muscle suppleness
• Improves circulation, recovery time (eg after surgery or birth)
and immune system
• Reduce overall stress
• Helps to release toxins (beneficial for weight loss)
• Improves lymphatic drainage (helps water retention)
• Relaxes and energises
The treatment is performed using vegetable-based oils, and Sérénité recommend incorporating aromatherapy essential oils with their individual therapeutic properties. Please ask if you are interested in this as we will be able to tailor a unique blend to suit your particular physical and emotional requirements. Therapeutic Massage treats a wide range of symptoms and conditions and the origins of any imbalance but it may also be a relaxing, stress relieving treatment and is suitable for people without specific problems, who simply want to unwind from their busy lives.
Indian Head Massage
Indian Head Massage is based on traditional Ayurvedic techniques involving work on the shoulders, neck, scalp and face. A variety of massage movements are used to relieve tension and stimulate circulation. Many clients comment on the fact that they feel as if their whole body is balanced after the treatment. Indian Head Massage helps to reduce mental and physical stress by bringing relaxation to the mind and body and can be tailored to combat fatigue through an energising and revitalising treatment.
The Benefits of Indian Head Massage include:
• Helps to reduce stress levels, improving concentration impaired
through mental fatigue
• Stimulates the circulatory and lymphatic systems
• Loosening of the scalp which, in combination with the improved circulation, benefits the condition of the hair and hair growth
• Relieves eyestrain, tension, headaches, tinnitus and sinus congestion
• Relieves joint and muscular tension
• Alleviates stiffness in the neck and shoulders
• Improves disturbed sleep/insomnia
Hot Stone Massage
Hot Stone Massage combines the benefits of hydrotherapy (water therapy) and thermotherapy (heat therapy) with massage techniques, to create a deeply relaxing and healing treatment. Sérénité uses basalt because it absorbs and retains heat better than other stones. The flat, river stones are warmed in water, in a special heater, to between 125 and 135 degrees. Some of the stones are then placed in strategic places on your body, such as your back, thighs, and between your toes, while others are used for deep tissue massage. This treatment is enjoyable for everyone, and is highly recommended for people that experience a high level of muscular tension. The massage is deeper and the benefits last longer than traditional massage due to the warmth of the stones.
The Benefits of Hot Stone Massage include:
• Improves circulation and blood flow to tissues • Improves elimination of toxins and waste products • Deep relaxation, as the warmth of the stones relaxes the client both physically and mentally. Calming and comforting • Deep tissue and cleansing treatment • Stress reduction, relieving mental and physical fatigue • Relieves pain
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is at the heart of Sérénité’s approach. For all treatments where appropriate, pure essential oils are used to create an individual and tailored treatment that will promote health and well-being. What is aromatherapy? Dating back to Egyptian times, aromatherapy uses essential oils - each with unique properties that can be blended together to create a tailored treatment that works on the individual’s physical body, mind and soul. Essential oils are concentrated essences extracted from the flowers, fruit, seeds, leaves and the bark of certain plants. Between 40 and 50 of these oils are commonly used in aromatherapy, with each essential oil having its own individual properties e.g. lavender is a relaxing oil which is beneficial to help with sleeping problems, relieving muscular tension and anxiety, as well as balancing sebum in oily skin. Oils are absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream and depending on the type of oil, have an effect on specific organs or functions of the body. The warm, scented oils not only combine to create a sensory and restoring physical treatment but deliver lasting benefits as they are absorbed into the body.
Aromatherapy can help treat a variety of ailments such as:
- Muscular aches and pains
- Digestive complaints
- Headaches, migraines,
- colds and sinusitis
- Allergies
- Immune system deficiencies
- Respiratory problems
- Skin conditions (eczema, psoriasis, acne etc)
- Menstrual and menopausal problems,
- PMT
- Sleep disturbances
- Anxiety, stress and depression
- Fatigue
- Arthritis and other joint problems
- Urinary Tract Infections,
- cystitis
Reflexology
Reflexology has been practiced for thousands of years and has its origins in China and Egypt. Reflexology uses the feet as a map or mirror of the whole body. The premise behind reflexology is that following illness, stress, injury or disease the body is in a state of imbalance and vital energy pathways can be blocked which prevent the body from functioning efficiently. By manipulating, and applying pressure to reflex zones and pressure points in the feet, the whole body can be ‘re-tuned’ and brought back into balance. Reflexology can help with a wide range of illnesses and conditions, including stress, fertility issues, sleep problems, sports injuries, digestive and circulatory problems. It is also used as preventative health care and is an effective way of maintaining vitality and well-being. It can also help boost the immune system and eliminate toxins. It is said that approximately 75% of all illnesses are originally linked to stress, and for this reason principally more and more people are turning to this therapy either as a preventative way of avoiding serious illness or during and after illness to maintain well-being. Stress can drain the immune system, leading to a greater susceptibility to colds and flu but can also cause tension which for example, can result in neck and shoulder stiffness and headaches. Stress is also a well-known contributory factor in heart disease.
The Benefits of Reflexology include:
- Reduces tension and stress and induces relaxation
- Alleviates migraines and headaches
- Alleviates sinus problems
- Benefits hormonal imbalances (beneficial when trying to conceive)
- Improves back problems
- Helpful with sleep disorders/insomnia
- Eases constipation/diarrhoea/IBS
- Eases respiratory problems
- Improves circulation
- Balances and revitalises the body
A course of treatments is recommended to ensure optimum results. Jeanne is a member of the AOR (Association of Reflexologists).
